They make good stuff but is definitely a bit pricier than most of the competition. I do love the DD5 and would buy another DD again though. Just got to save up your coins for it.

Great rifle.
Great battle rifle in a platform for today. Easy to carry although can be a little heavy depending on the accessories you hang on it, of which I have tried several. The rifle is solid always functioning on pig hunts in TX, bear in CO, or tactical rifle exercises firing 500 rounds in a day. Can not say anything but good about this rifle it is everything I wanted and more than I expected.

Everything I expected of a top shelf rifle. Very happy with it. Does what it is supposed to and looks darn good
Tough for me to switch from a bolt action. Like the trigger ,the feel of the rifle . Charging handle for me I feel is small ,tough to pull. But I have mounted a scope which impeads my hand. It does everything it’s suppoed to. Can’t wait to get some distance to shoot for the range I am at is only 200 yards. Wanted an m14 Maryland says we can’t have one so I chose this rifle. Extremely comfortable shooting , bcg easily cleans up easily. The different ammo I have shot from cheap to expensive has performed .

Solid gun.
Don't own, but shot quite a few times with a friend. Decent rifle, definitely feels like a higher end .308 rifle should.

With all of these upgrades they list off for the BCG, all I see is "proprietary and cannot change".

For the price though, there isn't a whole lot that they changed besides the handguard mount and BCG imo. No adjustable gas system, no gas piston, not a lower weight, and not the look of it. What sets this apart from the competition? The name and good materials, not much else unfortunately.

Good rifle, high price, lack of features.

100% Worth It
I own mutiple DD rifles from the Mark 18 to the DDV5S and have put several thousand rounds through each one. I picked up the DD5V1 when it first came out and this rifle gets the job done. I have roughly 3k rounds through it from PMC, IMI, and many other brands, but for precision shooting this rifle loves 175 grain Federal Sierra Matchking. I run the rifle in the DMR roll with my Nightforce SHV 4x14 and in CQB with an offset Aimpoint T2. I consistently shot 1/2 to 3/4 MOA groups with 175 grain Sierra Matchking. I added a Surefire Muzzle break to incorporate my Surefire Socom RC 7.62 Suppressor and make the rifle shoot flatter. The ambi safety is easy to manipulate when transitioning shoulders and when suppressed the recoil is so minimal it makes you forget you're shooting a .308. If you want a rifle thats dependable, consistent, and accurate this one will do it in spades!

Sweet gun that is a pricey!
It's an excellent and super accurate rifle. DD would sell manny more if they were a bit cheaper because I'd buy another. I've talked to several shooting buddies that agree. Though I specially called and offered to pre pay for one with an 18 inch barrel and MLOK. I was told DD had NO plans to do that. Then I swear 2 weeks later they release that exact rifle!!! I LOVE DD products but that made me EXTREMELY mad AND I HAVENT BOUGHT ANOTHER SINCE. I own four DDs: a DD5, MK18,V5lw, and an Ambush 6.8! If I got another it would be a DD5V2 MLOK. But they are pricey for this market and for what they are IMO! Also, I'm still burned on spending 2600 bucks a couple weeks before the actual gun I wanted came out and was flat out LIED to!

Perfect DMR
I bought this just over a year ago and I've never had an issue with it. Even when it's kitted up with a Vortex PST, a Harris Bipod, and a suppressor it weighs less than my previous AR-10 without any equipment on it. I am consistently shooting .5 MOA groups out to 300 yards. This is my favorite rifle and worth every penny!

Awesome package!
All-around great shooter. I absolutely love the ambidextrous bolt release, mag release and selector switch. The rail system is SOLID, there is no play whatsoever and the slim profile feels excellent in my hands. You can't buy much better of a trigger. I plan on using this for some medium-range target shooting and maybe some heavy metal 3 gun competitions. I bought mine before the DD5V2 was offered, and given the chance I would have got the longer barrel and rifle length gas system the V2 offers. Either way, I'm very satisfied with this rifle!

Lights Out
Lets get this started. I've had my DD5V1 for a year. About 900rds through it and its a USDA Prime Beast of a weapon. Keep in mind that this is NOT a .223. You don't burn through ammo doing mag dump after mag dump in a medium-large caliber rifle. .308 is 2-3x the energy of .223, on bot ends of the barrel. The DD5 lets you know that you just released imminent destruction to whatever you pointed at but in no way punishes you for it. And it rewards you with .5-.75 MOA groups for your fundamentals, consistently. Sit some 4-12x glass on top, and have serious confidence out to 800+ yards, all from a 16" barrel. Oh and its light and gentle enough to hit a swinging 2.5" steel ball repeatedly at about 30yds, standing, while mitigating .30 cal recoil. Lights Out.

Great Quality, Very Accurate !
Very accurate, very well made! Installed a Leupold VX 3I Scope with a Leupold 1 piece mount, shoots 1/2 MOA at 100 yds. Looked at many different AR 308 rifles and after much research found this rifle did it all. Most fell into the Grunt rifle category. I consider this to be a high end Operators rifle.

Ripping through a platoon of milk containers filled with water or invading a third world dictatorship? Bring one of these with you!
First DD I've ever owned. As a former Marine and specifically a grunt (0351) I have fired a few rounds in my life...almost none through a 'hunting' rifle. This weapon feels strong and it is well balanced. When you pull the trigger the feedback you get is a roll, no hard thump whatsoever. You can literally fire hundreds of rounds through this weapon without fear of fatigue from recoil. It is also ridiculously accurate with just the peep sights right out of the box. Best money I have ever spent on a weapon!

My Bolt Gun needs a new home!
I purchased my DD5V1 the week before deer season last fall. First group (100 yds) was three rounds in 0.825 inches with my standard hunting ammo (Fed 165 Nosler Solid Base - P308S2). I might just as well retire my .308 bolt gun or pass it down now. Flawless performance, great handling. Manufacturing quality as high as you would expect.

Nothing But Impressive!
I am a long term Black Rifle operator with this being my first AR10. The system continues to impress with half MOA results. I look forward pushing it's capabilities out to 800+ yrds. The system cycles perfectly with zero malfunctions in 400rds, so far. Quality is nothing less than impressive, clearly DD did nearly everything right. The price point might appear steep but it's worth the investment Where is the waiting list for the DD5V2???

Best 308 rifle I have ever owned. Parted with my SCAR 17 and JP LRP because all I shoot now is my DD5v1. I hold sub MOA groups, hit 10" steel at 400m so easily it is almost boring, and the gun runs and runs without any problems! Simply put, it is accurate, light, and extremely reliable.

Accurate and reliable
Great rifle! I have owned other higher priced .308's that in my opinion couldn't hold up against this system. I have yet to have it malfunction with any of the ammo I've fired through it. I can say with confidence that it can produce groups under a minute with factory match ammunition like 118LR, firing from the prone with bipod and sand socks for support. It is very ergonomic and comfortable to shoot. the recoil management is the best Ive felt. I can literally spot and watch round strikes without coming off target. Great product!

The DD5 is probably the rifle that the original AR10 (bleeding down to the AR15) should have been. Just about everything about it is essentially a product improved version of basic AR-pattern engineering. So much about the design - big & small, such as the barrel/fore-end mounting system, to the carrier, to the firing pin - is simply better and, yes, smarter.

Lacking any recognizable standards like the small-frame AR system, a lot about it is proprietary - as all large-frame ARs are - and it is selling against a huge installed- & knowledge-base. If DD does it right however, it could push a lot of the ash and trash aside over time for serious-use large-frame ARs.

If this rife would have been in existence back in the day, the SCAR 17 would have been stillborn.

Finally had the chance to shoot my DD5V1. It performed flawlessly. The best word I can describe for shooting this is smooth. Although loud, the recoil and action of the rifle are without drama. After 1 shot, it all becomes predictable. I have it paired with a trijicon VCog scope. The quality of the rifle is pure American precision.

It took, about 100 rounds in the bench rest before I could shoulder fire it and get it to cycle. But after that I was pinging the gongs at 50, 100, and 200 yards limited only by my one shake using NRA positions without sling. 1 MOA accuracy. After first 100 round ran clean and was very accurate. I bought this gun to get something with a little more range and impact than my Sig Sauer 5.56. I was not disappointed!

Just put a simple Nikon M-308 4-16x42 BDC 800 scope on it, zeroed to 200 yards, and am punching paper after three shots.

Incredibly smooth trigger pull, less recoil than my 5.56, all in a beautiful, precision machined piece of art. Will be using for deer this fall.

Switched to my hand loads, SIE 168 HPBT and Nosler 168 HPBT using VV-N140 puts three holes almost in the same hole (yes the hole is oblong) at 100 yards. Note the OGIVE setting is .025.. The employees and DD should be very proud of the hard work and dedication to producing such a fantastic product. I own several DD's and everyone of my weapons are flawless. Thank you DD for producing a GREAT AMERICAN PRODUCT!

New DD5V1 is Top Shelf.
Just shot my new DD5V1. Pulled a scope off my DDM4V9 LW, Burris ar332, with QD and slapped it on. At 50 yards, I blazed a ragged hole of 1" high x 1" wide with 17 rounds. I was pleased with the managed recoil of the AE 168gr 7.62x51mm ammo used. Very lite weight and slim key mod handguard. Need gloves or handguard covers, as that barrel heats up pretty quickly, which inturn heats up the handguard. Everything that I need, at this time, for a defensive close quarters style platform.

Amazing AR-10 from DD
Bought this 308 AR for Heavy Metal 3 Gun ... debated building my own AR10 but Im glad I went with the DD5 since Im sure it saved me aggravation. DD5 ran perfectly with all ammo I tried - zero jams in sight in session and first 3 gun match. Accuracy is stellar too - was able to hit 450 yards with first shot on the clock at match . I did put a Titan Comp on and the recoil is silly light - honestly feels like a 223 without a comp (my 1990's HBAR for example). I am very happy with the DD5 and if you are on the fence about buying one like I was, I guarantee you will not be sorry.

I did side by side comparrisons with my RR LR8 Predator which is a nice rifle, but no comparrison in craftmanship. Bolt Carrier Group for starters. Wow!! I had my reservations with that 16" barrel but that's quicly gone. Great gun!!
Just bought mine and found a 3x10 NF Scope. Loaded 10 different loads of Sierra 155tmk thinking lighter bullets would be better suited but am rethinking this. Took my rifle out back to zero with another load used in a different .308. The load was Sierra 165gr HPBT Gamekings loaded with IMR4064, CCI BR2 Primers and Nosler Factory Brass. I used 4 shots to zero. With the remaining 6 bullets, I fired them maybe 20 seconds apart to see what kind of grouping it would do. Distance was only 60 yards because I was merely zeroing with other ammo before testing hand loads. My first shot hit 12 O-clock on the bull and the next 5 shots in one hole less than 1/8th inch left. Grouping was just over .260" which would have been .52" at 100 yards!! I haven't had a chance to shoot test handloads yet but anticipate the 155grs will shoot even better. Very pleased for having only fired 10 shots.

Is it worth the price....Yes
What a great rifle! I have a MK12 and with the fit and finish of that weapon being outstanding, I thought I would try out DDs 308. I am not disappointed. I know a lot of people take issue with the price, but when I ran the numbers of buying a M&P - 10 and then adding all the mods to it, you are not that far off from a DD, maybe 200-300 depending on your upgrades. In addition, I would pay the extra not only to get this quality of a rifle but the service behind it. People often forget, you are not only buying the product, but the service behind it as well. The only thing I would love to see is an 18in or 20in barrel with a rifle length gas system for sale on your site. I know you are making the 18 for your Ambush version, so it shouldn't be too difficult to hammer out a few more for individual sale. Hint Hint.

None Better at any Price for an AR 308!!!
Just bought my second Daniel Defense gun being this DD5. My first was the DDV11 and the quality and craftsmanship was second to none. I just got back from the Range with this DD5 and it not only shot flawlessly. But run though every manufactures bullets I could throw at it without a hitch, basically right out of the box with out any break-in. I popped on a 3x12 40mm on top and the consistency of the grouping at 300, 400, 500 were better than I ever expected from the rifle out of the box. Not to mention this AR has one of the best triggers one can buy already built in. Yes there are cheaper 7.62's out there but as one of my friends always told me "Do you want at Polex or a Rolex". This AR is the Rolex amoung AR 308's. You will never regret buying not only any Daniel Defense rifles, but this 308 stands out as one of the best 7.62 AR's on the market today at any price!!!

Absolute Respect for DD5
Daniel Defense,

My name is Nick Cooper and I work at His and Hers Target Sports in Sheridan, Indiana and we have recently been testing your DD5V1 AR 10 to be able to tell our customers about the individual performance of our AR rifles.......and more importantly that the weapons are worth the price they command. The DD5V1 has been our test subject for the past 3 weeks and we felt the need to express our absolute respect of this firearm.

After several weeks of trying out several different bullet weights & manufacturers we set out this past Wednesday with a box of Hornady A-MAX 168 Grain and the consistency in the performance of the DD5V1 with this ammunition was outstanding......as in 'a 3/4 inch spread at 200 yards on a 71 degree almost dead calm day' outstanding ....... by a shooter with only 4 months experience on a 200 yard range (that's me).

Attached please find copies of our photos from our last test run. Take a bow Ladies and Gentlemen our hats are off to you all at Daniel Defense! We here at His and Hers Target Sports are absolute believers in DD and the quality of your products. BRAVO DANIEL DEFENSE, BRAVO!

First purchase of a 308
I just purchased the DD5V1 this week. This was my first .308 purchase. I have shot many, mostly in the military, but this was the first purchase. (I wish I would have known they give a military discount) I own another DD in 5.56 and have been very impressed with its durability and accuracy. This looks to be a common thread with the DD rifles so I felt it was worth the higher than expected price tag.
First off, let me just say that this is a beautiful rifle. It is asthetically pleasing. It is also lighter than any other AR10 I've held. If I jump this guy elk hunting, that alone will be worth the extra cost. The ambidextrous controls are cool to have and don't get in the way.

I shot about 150 rounds today and was hitting bulls at 100 yards once I got my scope set. The 2 pound trigger is very nice. Clean up was easy with the bcg. Just wipe it down. I used a little frog lube to bust the hard stuff off with a paper towel.

It seems there are some pretty ingenious innovations on this rifle, like the four bolt barrel attachment in lieu of a barrel nut. I was worried about this, actually. What If I wanted or needed to change the barrel out? I was told that DD warranties the rifle for life. Well, that is real nice and all, but does that mean I cannot alter the weapon without using proprietary equipment? I still do t have an answer to that question, but now that I have shot this rifle I seriously doubt I would change a thing. This thing is very nice and appears to bee tack driver. I may put my can on it at some point, but otherwise, I like it just the way it is. I am very happy with the purchase (I still kick myself over the military discount thing) and if I was asked to suggest a e08 for a friend, this would be at the top of my list!

Excellent accuracy, trigger, and hardware. Lighter than expected.

Only reason quality isn't a 5 star is because the rifle came with some nicks on the bolt carrier. Does not impact function.

I got one of the first ones released (first 200), and the rifle really is a pleasure to shoot.

Best of the Best
I have shot over 500 rounds through my DDM5v1 without a malfunction. The rifle is extremely accurate and well made. One might think it is a little pricey but I didn't have to replace the trigger (comes with a Geisselle), has a superior barrel attachment systems and the bolt carrier group is unsurpassed. Their customer service can't be bear: I couldn't get the little bolt out of the charging handle to replace the "ear" and they sent me a complete new charging handle. Everything is top notch on this rifle except I did replace the plastic safety selector levers. They worked great but are on the small size for me.

One 308 Rifle to Rule Them All
From the moment I held the DD5, I knew I had to own one. As of a little more than a week ago, I am now the proud owner of my DD5V1. Fit and finish are top notch. I noticed that on the bottom of the gas block where one would usually find a set screw, it was a blind hole. To my satisfaction, the gas block is pinned to the barrel. The upper and lower receivers fit tightly without any wobble. All of the fire controls are solid. Testing out the trigger made me a firm believer in the Geissele SSA. It breaks crisply with just the right amount of take-up. Combined with the cold hammer-forged barrel and a Burris XTR II 1.5-8x scope with CQ Mil reticle using an American Defense Manufacturing 34mm Recon mount, I was able to produce tight groups on my first 100 yard outing, to include sub-MOA groups with 125 gr Speer TNT hollow points and 168 gr Sierra Match Kings. My second trip was to a local outdoor range that allowed for shots out to 300 yards. Both 147 gr FMJ and 168 gr Match Kings were tremendously accurate at distance staying well within 1 MOA. The Superior Suppression Device coupled with the mid-length gas system resulted in an extremely mild recoil allowing for quick follow up shots when needed though the unmistakable bark of the 308 reminded me what I was sending downrange. This is the single, most expensive rifle I own but I believe the DD5V1 to be worth every penny.

After looking at many other .308 AR type rifles the DD5V1 was the only real choice.
I like everything there is to like about this rifle. The weight, length of the rail and the ease of putting rounds on target. I've taken it to the range twice now and experienced shooter that have taken a look at it can't believe how light it is and how good it feels in hand. If it wasn't for Dave Steinbach I never would have considered it because I wouldn't have believed how well it has performed.

Great rifle. A lot of thought went into it's design. I'm very impressed with the quality and engineering of this rifle.
I suppose no matter how good a product is, there will be something that bugs me. In the case of the DD5V1 I would like a 16 to 18 inch barrel and a price of around $2500.00 to $2800.00. I am planning on starting to compete in the Heavy Metal Class of 3-Gun competition and would prefer a 16-18 inch barrel.

DD5V1 is amazing!
This is truly an amazing piece of work. After getting the keymod bipod adapter from DD,
I couldn't wait to get to the range. I put a Nikon Prostaff 5 3.5-14 on it and got to it. Took about 20 minutes of bore sighting and working my way up to 100 yards, I was doing a 2 inch group! I put 150 rounds of Magtech 147 grain through this work of art without one single problem. I just bought some match grade ammo so I will be going back to the range very soon. The only thing I could find on the DD5 was a little play between the upper and lower which seems to be very common with all the other brands I own. Took care of it with an Accuwedge like I did with my other AR's. Not a big deal to me. This rifle is well worth the money. I normally wouldn't spend that kind of cash but I fell in love with it the minute I picked it up. Once you hold one you'll have a greater appreciation for the time that went into developing this amazing rifle by Daniel Defense. Great job for sure!

Completely Superb
I purchased one of these a few months back and after many rounds fired I have never had a single issue. For my optics I mounted a Leupold mark 4 3.5-10x40 MRT with mildot recticle. I was amazed at how light the platform was from factory. As an avid shooter and gun collector, I would not hesitate to take this into any combat situation. Honestly, it's been fantastic at close quarters and with my optics I'm shooting very consistent out to 600 yards. I imagine you could use it for greater distances, but 600 is the limit I can achieve on the land I own. It is my number one, let me reenforce that again. NUMBER ONE go to AR platform for no matter what situation/threat may arise. You will not go wrong if you purchase this.

DD5V1-Initial Impressions.
I just bought the new DD5V1 and the craftsmanship is great and there are several enhancements to a regular DI AR. The rifle isn't a pure sub-MOA gun as I had desired and hope DD will come out with alternative barrels or backward compatible enhancements to make this more of a sub MOA gun with match ammo. A 6.5 Creedmoor barrel would be great also for real accuracy work.

I got mine for a reasonable street price that helped sway my decision as did DD's commitment to quality, customer satisfaction and that they seem the most likely to come out with a 6.5 barrel and other enhancements.

Excellent fit and finish, super comfortable to shoot, EASY to clean, and just basically fun to look at and handle. Oh, and accurate, VERY accurate.
I've been out of the "gunworld" for about 15 years, previous to that, however, I owned and fed thousands of rounds through various AR-15s, mostly of Colt manufacture. Recently, I started seeing ads for the DD5 in various magazines like Recoils OFF GRID and other "survival" mags. I had always been interested in the AR-10, but it was never affordable for me. I didn't know about the various design issues. So, fast forward back to now, I'm seeing all these ads for the DD5 and then I saw the Guns and Ammo Daniel Defense issue, bought that and proceeded to become a devoted fan, all without ever having touched one of your products. I went to a local gun club listed as a dealer, hoping to get my hands on one, but all they had were some DDM4s so I had to settle for taking a close look at those. Super beautiful workmanship (as you are perfectly aware). I couldn't, however, get them to give me a price on a DD5d. I looked around a little more and found someone who operates what he calls a "concierge gun sales" operation (also a dealer for you all) and told him what I was looking for and he was right there with a price that was perfect for me. Got my tax return, got the rifle, finally got a chance to shoot it about a month ago and again about a week ago and I just have to tell you all that were I about 30 years younger, I would be pulling up stakes to come up there and sit outside the door of your establishment until I could get a job having anything at all to do with the manufacture of such a wonderfully built, and fun to shoot rifle.
(IF you ever have an option for getting an AR-15 (5.56) in the color purple, or purple camo, I'll be buying one for my wife.

I was able to handle this rifle for the first time and it is very impressive. My only comparison to other Daniel Defense products is the DDM4v7 and various AR10s.

Standout performance out of the box as you would expect from Daniel Defense but local shops are asking for $2,800 - $3,100 for this gun. That's a little hefty - even for a DD supporter. Is this rifle really $1,000 more on the line than the other DD rifles?

So far I love my rifle. Roll back time and I'd buy one again, especially for the price I got mine for one gunbroker. But it would've been nice, for the premium price it demands, if it had just come with your iron sights like the ones you put on the displays at 2016 SHOW Show. Otherwise it is an excellent rifle, smooth action and excellent trigger. Great gun that is very well made...we are proud owners of the DD5!
Just purchased the gun yesterday and my wife and I had a blast shooting it today. Lot's of power and lot's of fun! We both loved the feel and balance of the gun as well as the 2 stage trigger. We look forward to many great days at the range.

High quality, very light.
My DD5V1 is very light so recoil is a bit stronger than other heavier 7.62 AR's I've used. Also the muzzle break is not that great on curbing recoil. The quality and reliability of the rifle seem outstanding though- very tight tolerances for an AR, no rattle. I've only put 500 rounds through it but it's staying clean, tight and reliable. A bit expensive but may be worth it, we'll see in the long run. Also I'd like to know more about the barrel extension and if the barrel is proprietary or not.
